I woke up this morning not expecting the scale to move. I’ll be happy with a 0.2 pound loss. This week, I didn’t do much cardio. I lifted and did plenty of strength training, but I didn’t hit my legs because I wanted them well rested for my first 5K race. So what happened when I stepped on the scale this morning? The impossible.
193.8. I literally said “WTF” out loud, which my parents attributed to a weight gain. They wanted to hear the damage. I told them to hold on as I proceeded to weigh myself another 4 times. Yep. 193.8.
So what happened?
I have no idea. Maybe it was the race, maybe it was my decrease in appetite, maybe it was the sauna, maybe it was my strength training, maybe it was my hydration. Whatever it was, it worked.
Do I expect results like this on a weekly basis? NO! which is why it was such a pleasant surprise.
The loss is wonderful, but I’ve got bigger things to train for, bigger things to accomplish. I’ve got a 10K to run and a half marathon too. This is more than just a number now.
Last week’s weight: 197.6
This week’s weight: 193.8 (down 3.8)
Total Loss: 29.8
Last week’s goals:
1. Run an 8:30 mile.
2. Complete my first 5K race ever!
3. Make miso soup.
4. Stay under 1600 calories a day.
5. Drink a gallon of water a day.
The 8:30 mile is still elusive, but I didn’t try running that much last week.
I finished my first 5K race ever in 33:21! It felt amazing to cross that finish line. Now onto the 10K!
I thought we had miso, but we didn’t. So no miso soup.
I stayed under 1600 calories for most of the days, but I did have two high days, a 1700 and a 1900.
I drank at least a gallon of water a day. Proper hydration is essential for muscle recovery, weight loss, and running!
Goals for the week:
1. Run an 8:30 mile.
2. Run 10 miles straight.
3. Make miso soup.
4. Post my ham-wrapped asparagus POM recipe.
5. Make Craig and Kat 5K banners before Friday.
What are your goals for the week?

I honestly didn’t expect to lose much either this week, but ended up losing 3lbs. It must be one of those weeks!
Yay for that amazing loss! Whatever it was take it and run, LOL. You amaze me! 8:30 mile? That will rock. I did a 9:36. I now heart speed work…who knew it actually worked?!
A banner? Yippee!
Awesome! Look at you having a banner week! Your first 5K and down 3.8! Amazing! Congrats to you on the great week.
I’m staring at a week of less movement and conference food. I’m trying really really hard not to let it screw up my plans. I know for sure I need to work on the hydration too. Week of extra hydration here I come!

Official weigh in is tomorrow, but it’s looking like I’m going to have fairly big loss too. WooT!
Congrats on your week of awesome. Seriously, you’ve rocked it! Looking forward to seeing how you do with this weeks goals (which I think you will also rock!)
Congrats!! I’m really motivated by your 5k time to try to speed mine up. I’ve got my first 5k (in years) coming up soon and I feel soooo slow. My goals for this week are to eat all my meals at home and run 25 min without stopping.
Alright, Jess!!!!!! It’s always great to have a loss that’s a little bigger than you expected! What an amazing week for you. This was a great way to wrap all those accomplishments up. Congrats!

Wowsers!! Good job!!!!!! A great week for you in many ways!! This week’s goals have nothing on you!!
Seems the unexpected loss is making it’s way around the blogworld. I too was expecting a smaller gain but was rewarded with 3.5lbs. Seems like some of your best losses are when you don’t expect it.

Yeah I’m a nerd. Congrats again Jess. The achievements just keep piling on.
Can we please blow things up when you come back in June? Or run/lift then blow things up? By the way, I can almost do a full push-up. Just a few inches away!
SHAZAM!

Wow, what great (and much deserved!!) results! I’m so proud of you, for so many reasons
My goals for the week are to do as good as possible on W4 of C25K and to do as good as possible (and finish) the 5K on Saturday…and not let my fear of jogging in front of people “weigh me down” and therefore not jog at all during it.
As far as the scale goes, I’m just hoping to maintain. I’ve done well on exercise, but poor on food. We’ll see.
