Day 40

by Jess on March 13th, 2010 in Month 1 & 2

Consumption: 1755 calories, 19.7g of fat. Total steps: 13,892

Data for March 12.

Introducing the broccotatoes! The broccoli we had was starting to look a bit more brown than green so I decided to use it. But I hate steamed broccoli. Well, not hate. I’d eat them if I had to, but it’s so BORING. It’s steamed broccoli. You could make so many things with broccoli, why would you just steam it?! Dull. Anyway, I decided to mash them in with potatoes and cheese, turkey bacon, red onions, and garlic with a bit of nonfat milk and the result? Yummy! And you get your vegetables and carbs all in one dish! The green color is a bit weird looking, I must say, but the taste more than makes up for it! Broccotatoes, you are awesome.

Workout: Treadmill. Chest. Shoulders.

Since my legs have gotten a ton of workout, I haven’t been squatting or doing much with them, although I will next week. I finally benched! This was because there wasn’t 20 guys trying to hog the bench and put 200 pounds on each end. Since I didn’t have any one to spot me, I didn’t max, but I did 3 sets of 9 at 55 pounds. Not bad. When I can press my body weight, I’ll be able to do a push-up. I don’t think I’ll be able to press my body weight any time soon though.

Finished the 5K A Day Challenge! Since the challenge is only 6 of the 7 days, I did it from Sunday to Saturday. I ran the first mile, easy warm-up now, and ran part of the second before I walked for a few minutes, then ran at 6.0 for half a mile, then walked for a few minutes, and ran the last mile with an increased pace. I still finished within that 38 minute mark (including warm-up).

Day 39

by Jess on March 12th, 2010 in Month 1 & 2

Consumption: 1996 calories, 26.6g of fat. Total steps: 14,283

Data for March 11.

I used three pieces of Swiss cheese because I have a feeling they’re going to start to go bad soon. Will that increase my fat content for the day? Yes. Is that ok? Yes. I haven’t had over 20 grams of fat in over a month. Will it be a one time thing for the week? Yes. Still adhering by my standards. By the way, I love adding sauteed spinach, mushrooms and onions onto my sandwiches. And, I realized I don’t like cold sandwiches much. When I make my melts, the meat is usually always heated up. Tastes more satisfying that way.

Protein shake and found this additional jar of protein booster powder. Added that too. Only 20 calories per tablespoon for 5 grams of protein.

Dinner was awesome! I found out I could make meatballs. They’re a bit weirder, since there’s no oil involved in the cooking process so you have to steam them a bit when it’s on the stove, but it works! I made a meatball sub with homemade sauce topped with mozzarella cheese. I also made potato skins from two russet potatoes with the insides scooped out, saved for a future dish of mashed potatoes (I’m thinking mashed potatoes + broccoli, so mashed broccatoes?). It was great! I bought bacon bits from Costco over the weekend and for a tablespoon, the calories were worth it. And all you needed was a tablespoon. Topped with some fat free sour cream and green onions and you’ve got yum in the mouth. I’m not too sure how to calculate the calories for potato skins so I just went with the calories for one medium-sized potato. That might be overestimating, but I figure it’s better to err on the exaggerated side.

Workout: Treadmill. Obliques. Chest. Shoulders.

I thought I wasn’t going to run a 5K today, that today would be my rest day. I woke up feeling pretty pooped out, but then I got to the gym and it was like impossible to turn down the treadmill. Today, the treadmill was like that hot guy at the bar that you just had to go flirt with. I flirted 5Ks with my boy tonight. It crapped out at 30 minutes for a brief second (when I was at 2.48 miles completed) so I started it back up and finished the 0.67 (sprinted for the last 0.25 miles at 6.0). It felt great to finish today’s run. I wanted to try going for 4 miles but I have to run another 5K tomorrow so I’ll give myself a break. No picture from today’s run.

Super setted wood chops with inclined push-ups. Then did some more chest work. I want to work on my legs but I still have one more day of running to do.
