My First Bridal Shower

by Jess on August 6th, 2010 in All Posts

I went to my first bridal shower yesterday!

I’ve never been to one, but for some reason, I feel like this is the catalyst, a signal of more to come. I didn’t know what to expect but it was so nice seeing the bride again.

I hadn’t seen her in years! It was amazing seeing how she was glowing from the inside out. I can sense the excitement but most importantly, I can see the love in her eyes.

I am truly happy for her.

So what happens at bridal showers?

A ton of food! I made a mental note of all the genius ideas the caterer had. Sometimes, I think I should’ve gone to culinary school.

A ton of presents! It’s like Christmas morning, all over again. Plenty of present opening and loads of “oohs” and “aahs.” I would get married just for the presents.

A ton of love and blessings! Everyone there, from family to friends, wanted and wished the best for the bride and groom. It’s heart-warming to see people find their other half. I hope they share many fond memories and laughter together.

Ever been to a bridal shower? What was your favorite part?

Ever been to a bachelor or bachelorette party? I have not.

Want me to shoot your wedding?

I love bridal showers the mood is always so happy. I love the games. The bachelorette parties are always fun. I am going to one nextweek, we are doing a pole dancing class and then we are going to play games and have fun cocktails.

I’ve been to a million bridal showers! (even thrown a few) They are always really lovely (though sometimes inappropriate depending on who’s there O.o)

I’d love to have you shoot my wedding but I imagine that you’ll be quite busy with law school! (and also my guy is dragging his feet, it’s quite possible that we will all have moved to Mars by the time he gets on the ball)

Glad you had a good time!

I am so grateful that you posted this! I have my first bridal shower on Sunday, and I’ve been wondering what it was going to be like. Food and presents… I think I can do this! Have a super weekend.

I never been to any! Because all my friends do things out of order… so consequently, i HAVE been to several baby showers ;) .
I think I would be nervous as a bride at a bridal shower. I don’t like people watching me open presents, not even at Christmas.

Lots of these in my early and mid twenties. We’re all married off now and some are making a run at round two :)

I rank my bridal shower (March of 09) as one of the happiest days of my life. On a fitness note, it started with one of my all-time favorite local 5ks that I have run annually for years. I PRed at the race and actually placed top 10 in my age group in a large field. I watched some of the parade that followed and had a few drinks with my running friends, my mom and one of my best friends who was in from out of town, then went home and got dressed for my shower. At the shower, I got the news from one of my bridesmaids and best running friends that we’d been asked that morning to join one of our local running teams. The day just got better and better. My shower was a great lunch and delicious cake, and I was surrounded by women whom I love and who love me, including some who had travelled quite far. I got so many lovely gifts that I enjoy using to cook, consume and entertain. Then that evening was my bachelorette party — dinner, drinks and lots of fun games. Seriously, an all-around amazing day. You’ll have fun doing those things with your friend and then someday for yourself!
