Brandon over at So Long, Fat Ass is having a Weekend Warriors challenge. The challenge requires that you set two to three health/exercise related goals to accomplish over the weekend.
Weekends are tough. There’s no work, plenty of bars filled with happy hours and people, and tempting foods everywhere. I’ve had my fair share of weekends filled with too much partying and too much booze. I haven’t had a splurge weekend since February, though. I haven’t had a sip of alcohol since I started my healthy quest, partially because I’m broke and partially because I’d rather eat than drink my calories.
Does it make me somewhat anti-social? Yes. I love my friends, but when you’re the only sober one at the bar, it becomes harder and harder to refrain from ordering that Long Island. Alcohol is my downfall. When I drink, I can’t deny myself a cheeseburger or a late-night burrito. But I haven’t had that problem in awhile.
So why am I doing the Weekend Warriors challenge? Because weekends are my lazy days. I want to do nothing. And I get really comfortable doing nothing, which results in little to no exercise occurring. I can’t have that this weekend.
I have my first 5K race on April 11. There’s still a lot of training to be done. I need to run outside twice and on the treadmill at least once to improve my time. At this point, I not only want to complete the 5K, I want to run it in 34-minutes. And I know I can. But I need to train and practice for it.
Weekend Warrior Goals:
1. Run a 5K in 34 minutes. Once.
2. Plank for 2 minutes. Once each day.
I’m planking because I realize I don’t do enough core strength work. I don’t focus enough on my lower back or my abs, so I figure the best way to do that is to incorporate an exercise that requires both.
How do you deal with temptations over the weekends? What are your goals for this weekend?
Join Brandon’s challenge if you need help staying on track!

WEEKLY CHALLENGE – Song of the Day
Today’s song features The Postal Service. If you’ve heard of Death Cab for Cutie, then you’ll like The Postal Service. Ben Gibbard, front man for Death Cab, is also in The Postal Service. The Postal Service is an indie pop band that incorporates electronic sounds along with Gibbard’s soothing voice. Most UPS commercials have a song by The Postal Service playing in the background.

April 11 is my hubby’s b-day, gotta be a good sign?! LOL. Good luck on your 5k and your weekend. My 5k goal is to come in under 35 minutes, woot, go us!
We can do it! I’m kind of intimidated by my 5K as it is, but it’ll be amazing to watch the invitationals.
Oh man, I avoid alcohol for the exact same reasons. I’m a lightweight so I don’t usually drink too many calories, but the bar-side munchies I always crave are killer! I’m doing the Weekend Warriors too…my goals are pretty modest: workout 45 minutes each day, keep my calories below 1500, and lose half a pound. Good luck!

Thanks! I’ll check in with you over the weekend to see how you’re doing.
Oh man, when I was in DC, Jumbo Slice was my downfall. Five dollars for a slice of pizza bigger than the size of your FACE!
Haha, fortunately for me I don’t get to Adams Morgan very often. My favorite indulgence is the massive number of cupcakeries around here…Hello Cupcake FTW!
PS – A 5K in July could be fun! I’ll need to work pretty hard to be ready, haha.

I pretty much try to avoid temptation over the weekends, and like you, it’s made me a little anti-social. My friends go out all the time to drink and eat crappy food, and as much as I want to hang out with them, I don’t want to spend the night either being miserable because I can’t have fun like them, or giving in to the temptation and then feeling guilty about it. So for now I’m avoiding it. I’d like to find a happy medium, but I don’t think I’m ready for it yet.
Good luck with the 5k! You can definitely do it!
Good luck on the challenge! I just posted my goals as well. I was a bit late. I tried to make them all exercise/water related, because it’s gonna be a somewhat tough week food wise, but mostly bc sat night i know there will be drinking…hehe. and karaoke
the good thing is, i never wanna eat when I drink…i guess i dont wanna kill the buzz! LOL. Gonna get in a nice long workout SaturDAY tho!

I treat everyday the same so it doesn’t matter to me that Saturday and Sunday are “the weekend”.
Good luck with your challenges this weekend!
Hey Jess, so happy to have you participating in the challenge! I’ve had a little bit of alcohol here and there since I started my journey, but really it’s been very little. I agree that I would rather eat my calories rather than drink them. But some days, if I’ve got some extra calories to spare at the end of the day, I’ll have a glass of wine.
Good luck with your goals for the weekend – I can’t wait to hear your results on Monday!

Good luck with your challenge goals, Jess! I’m still at the point with my April 24 5K that I definitely just want to finish! I know I won’t be able to run the whole thing, but I can at least finish it, dammit!
Break that 34 minute mark this weekend! Have a great one.

Incredible tune, and I’m not even into that kind of music.
